Atlanta United 2 are gearing up for the start of the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro regular season. On Saturday, March 16, at Fifth Third Stadium, they take on Orlando City B for the season opening match.
The club played six friendlies to get ready for the regular season. On March 2, the team hosted one of the preseason games at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground. The 3-2 comeback win against the Red Wolves was live streamed for the 17s to see.
Because of the busy offseason, one of the most notable things to follow with the team this coming season is the eight new faces to the roster. Two of those faces are 2024 MLS SuperDraft picks in goalkeeper Jayden Hibbert and midfielder Javier Armas. The club announced the 2024 roster which includes returning players Matías Gallardo and Karim Tmimi.
Head coach Steve Cooke is returning for his second year at the helm. Last season, the team ended with 33 points and a 9-13-6 record; two of those wins came on the shootout. Atlanta United 2 is always looking to advance the play of the members of the team. After a record-breaking season in MLS NEXT Pro in 2023, Nick Firmino signed with the First Team squad for the 2024 season. Cooke and his staff hope to see similar developments in other players on the club.
