Despite being on the front foot for the majority of the contest, Miami found an opening in the 32nd minute when fullback Nykolas Sessock played a ball through to Ryan Carmichael, who met the ball on the left side of the penalty box and chipped it over Jayden Hibbert for the decisive goal. ATL UTD 2 continued to knock on the door but was unable to break through. Atlanta's best look of the match came in the waning moments. Noble Okello slipped a pass through Miami's defense towards the right side of goal that met the feet of Nick Firmino. The Brazilian looked to go across goal with his shot, but Miami’s keeper dove to make the save before it could cross the goal line.
