Atlanta United’s unbelievable fan base continues to set a new bar for soccer in the United States. With the latest attendance record this weekend –– a single-match historic high for of 72,035 people for MLS –– Atlanta United’s red, black and gold army was the fourth-biggest in world soccer this weekend.
As is usually the case, Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich topped the world with 81,360 and approximately 75,000 tickets each. Then came one of the most storied rivalries in world soccer, Liverpool versus Manchester United at Old Trafford, where 74,855 were in attendance. And just behind them was Atlanta United, more than any other team in any soccer league over the weekend. Atlanta United fans now hold each of the three biggest single-match crowds in the history of Major League Soccer, with all of them coming in just nine games so far at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Due to the incredible demand for tickets, the club announced Monday they will open the 300-level for a fifth time this season, the final home match of the year against the Chicago Fire on October 21st.
