Atlanta United announced today it has signed Andrew Wheeler-Omiunu. The midfielder was selected by Atlanta United in the third round (No. 67 overall) of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft.
“Andrew has displayed a professional work rate and attitude during the first few weeks of training,” Atlanta United president Darren Eales said. “He’s also shown versatility, displaying his capability to play multiple positions, further improving our depth. He’s earned a spot on our roster.”
Wheeler-Omiunu, 22, was a four-year starter at Harvard, compiling 64 appearances, 61 starts, with four goals and six assists. He earned All-Ivy League First Team honors twice while being named team captain during his junior year. The Massachusetts native started at least 14 games each season, and in his sophomore year set a career-high in points (7) when he scored two goals and added three assists. In 2016 Wheeler-Omiunu scored one goal and recorded two assists while starting all 15 games for the Crimson.
