Today, recently signed Atlanta United forward Brandon Vazquez received the call-up to the U.S. U-20 MNT Camp which will take place in San Jose, Costa Rica beginning Dec. 13 to Dec. 20.
During the training camp the team will compete in two international friendly matches against the U-20 Costa Rica side in preparation for the 2017 CONCACAF U-20 Championship which will be held in Costa Rica in February. The tournament will be crucial for all teams participating due to the fact that their performance will determine who qualifies for the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea.
While this marks Vazquez’s inaugural call-up to the U-20 squad, he does not lack experience on the international stage, especially in the finishing department. The California-born forward was part of the U-17 MNT that competed in the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile in 2015, where he scored twice for his country. Following a strong stint with the U-17s, Vazquez then joined the U-19 MNT, tallying four goals in the 2016 campaign.
The 18-year-old officially signed with Atlanta United last week from Mexican side, Club Tijuana. Vazquez joins Andrew Carleton and Chris Goslin as the club continues to acquire young, U.S. International talent emerging through the ranks.
