Atlanta United returned to Bobby Dodd Stadium on Sunday following a lengthy four-match road stretch. There to welcome the team home were the club's raving fans and none other than the hailed Golden Spike.
Upon arrival on matchday, the tradition involves the players signing the spike just outside the stadium as fans cheer them on, and immediately after, the fans sign the spike as well. Before the match kicks off, the spike is driven into a platform for the entirety of the stadium to witness.
The Golden Spike is more than just a nod to the city's railroad history; it is a symbol of unity, an everlasting bond between fan & player.
