ATLANTA - On Saturday, Giorgos Giakoumakis made history as Atlanta United played host to D.C. United.
The Greek forward scored his tenth goal of the season in the 13th minute, climbing to the top of the Golden Boot race in Major League Soccer. By doing so, he also became the fastest player in Atlanta United's history to reach 10 goals having played 766 minutes in 10 matches. The previous record was 821 minutes by Josef Martínez, Atlanta United's all-time leading scorer.
Giakoumakis signed with Atlanta United in February of this year and he made his debut on March 4 as a second half substitution vs Toronto FC. At the end of the first half, with four other matches being played consecutively. the 28-year old sits at the top of the Golden Boot race with 10 goals in 10 matches, tied in goals with three other players who have played more matches than him.
At the end of the half, Giakoumakis also became the club's tenth all-time goalscorer.
