On Sunday, March 17, Caleb Wiley made his 55th start, the most starts in all competitions for an Atlanta United homegrown. The 19-year-old had a breakout season for the club in 2023, reaching career highs in appearances, starts, goals, and assists. His transition to the first team in 2022 was one for the books when he scored his first MLS goal in his league debut against Sporting Kansas City.
As one of the league’s stars on the rise, Wiley is a testament to the strength of soccer in the south. Wiley joined the Atlanta United Academy at age 11 and made his professional debut in July of 2020 for Atlanta United 2.
Just as 2023 was a strong year for Wiley, 2024 is set to be just as impactful for him. He’s started and played a full 90 in each of Atlanta United’s three regular season matches to kick off the season. Additionally, he’s one of six Atlanta United players that have been called up to represent their respective national teams during the March FIFA international window. He joins the U.S U-23 squad for their friendlies in Guinea as the team prepare for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
