This week on Keeping Up With King presented by Zep...
I'm learning a new command! My trainer, Michelle, says the word 'push' which means to press something in front of me. Sometimes, it's closing a door or a drawer. It could also mean pushing a handicap button. Whenever my trainer says the word, I lift my paw and push!
I've been working on this for a few weeks now. Michelle has slowed down the process for me, so I can take it one step at a time. For the first step, she used a small disk during training. The disk was shiny so at first I wanted to play with it. But my trainer showed me 'push' and I learned to put my nose up against it. Every time I did it right, I got some kibble!
Michelle always uses positive reinforcement so I leave the training on a high note. The reward shows me when I'm doing something right, which encourages me to do it again. And she has kibble with my favorite flavors - chicken and peanut butter. I'm licking my lips just thinking about the yummy treat! We practice 'push' a few times a day. I only wish I could do it even more for a few more pieces!
I know a few of you are ready to meet me, but I'll be in New York for the next several weeks. So keep reading and I'll make sure to update you on my next visit to the Benz!
Keep up with Atlanta United's VetDog, King! We're posting regular updates on King's training with his trainer, Michelle Samuels.
