Atlanta United 2 returns to action on Saturday, April 28 when it travels to face Pittsburgh Riverhounds at Highmark Stadium. The match is scheduled to kick-off at 7 p.m. EST and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
Atlanta United 2 had its four-match unbeaten streak snapped Tuesday, April 24, as the club fell 3-0 to Charleston Battery at Coolray Field. ATL UTD 2 featured a starting lineup with an average age of 20.9 years old, including two current Atlanta United Academy players in Kendall Edwards and Jackson Conway, who made his professional debut. Despite Atlanta creating more scoring opportunities in the first half, Charleston broke through in the 33rd minute to take a 1-0 lead into the break. Atlanta United loanee Gordon Wild added two goals in the second half to hand ATL UTD 2 its first loss of 2018.
Pittsburgh remained unbeaten after a 2-2 result at FC Cincinnati in front of 24,505 fans at Nippert Stadium on Saturday, April 21. Jordan Dover put Riverhounds SC ahead in the 6th minute, a lead that lasted until the 59th when Danni Konig equalized for Cincinnati. Each team scored once more, five minutes apart, when Thomas Vancaeyezeele gave Pittsburgh its second lead of the match with a low shot after receiving a pass from Kenardo Forbes. However, Cincinnati’s Kenney Walker scored the game-tying goal in the 78th minute.
Saturday’s match marks the first meeting between ATL UTD 2 and Pittsburgh Riverhounds. Atlanta is in 11th place in the Eastern Conference while Pittsburgh is in 5th.
