Thiago Almada scored early off the rebound of his own free kick, then assisted defender Brooks Lennon in the 79th minute to seal the game. On the other side, CF Montréal fell 1-0 to New York City FC at home. Prior to NYCFC's goal, Montréal had not conceded a goal at home in MLS play in 618 consecutive minutes.

Series History and Last Meeting

Although Atlanta owns the series between the two teams 5-3-3 (W-L-D), the 5-Stripes are winless in their last three matches (2L, 1D) against Montréal. In their last matchup at Stade Saputo in April 2022, Montréal jumped out to an early lead in the 4th minute before Atlanta stole one back at the start of the second half. However, Montréal scored the game-winner in the 82nd minute to secure the three points at home.

Players To Watch

Brooks Lennon (Atlanta United) – Lennon had a spectacular performance on Sunday, which was his 100th regular season match for Atlanta. The fullback scored his second goal of the season, earning a spot on the MLS Team of the Matchday 22. Lennon has been a reliable part of Atlanta's buildup this season; he has started in 20 matches for 1800 minutes of play and has seven assists from 44 crosses. The 5-Stripes will likely look for Lennon coming up the right side during their attack on Montréal on Saturday.

Mathieu Choinière (CF Montréal) – The 24-year-old Homegrown has become a strong asset to Montréal's midfield. The Quebec native has started in 16 of his 17 matches and has earned two goals and three assists on the season. Choinière, who was chosen by MLS commissioner Don Garber for the 2023 MLS All-Star Game, earned a first-half goal and assist against Sporting Kansas City earlier this season to clinch a big 2-0 win on the road for Montréal.
