Atlanta United midfielder Thiago Almada became the club's second-highest goal scorer in all competitions Wednesday night when he scored a goal vs D.C. United. Almada joined Atlanta United ahead of the 2022 season, and has since scored 22 goals in MLS Regular Season, 1 in MLS Cup Playoffs, 1 in the U.S. Open Cup and 1 in Leagues Cup.
He has scored five goals for the 5-Stripes this season. After an incredible 2023, which included 11 goals, Almada was named The 2023 MLS Young Player of the Year.
The Argentinian surpasses Giorgos Giakoumakis, who recently left the club, but it's still far from Josef Martínez's record of 111 goals. Almada was recently called up by Argentina during the June FIFA international window and is expected to represent Argentina at the coming 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris.
He already has won a World Cup with Argentina back in 2022, making him the first active MLS player to win a FIFA World Cup.
