Falcons linebacker Vic Beasley hammers in Atlanta United's Golden Spike

On Sunday, Atlanta United returned home after their four-match road stretch, which meant it was time for the club's Golden Spike to make another appearance.


Hip-hop artists Young Joc and Rich Homie Quan hammered in the hailed spike for Atlanta United's first two home matches in Bobby Dodd Stadium, but this time it was Georgia native and Falcons linebacker Vic Beasley who received the honor of taking part in the tradition.

Leading the NFL in sacks last season and helping the Falcons earn an NFC Championship, Beasley is well known among the Atlanta community not only for his contributions on the football field but for his affinity for the city's new MLS club.



The Falcons outside linebacker stepped up on the platform, swung the hammer around to rally the sold-out crowd before smashing the spike three times, A-T-L. The spike, signed by both the team and the fans, symbolizes the bond between fan and player. Hammered in on match day, the Golden Spike seals the unity that is the city's club. It was certainly a powerful moment Beasley won't soon forget:
