Atlanta United announced today it has waived forward Jacob Peterson.
“We want to thank Jacob for his contributions to the club and wish him luck in his future,” Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said. “He scored some big goals for us last year and he’ll always be appreciated for our expansion season.”
Peterson, 31, scored three goals in 10 appearances for Atlanta last season, including the game-tying goal at his former club Sporting KC in a 1-1 draw on Aug. 6. He’s a 13-year MLS veteran with 256 career appearances and 148 starts. He joined Atlanta after spending the previous five seasons with Sporting Kansas City. He’s also spent time with San Jose Earthquakes, Toronto FC and Colorado Rapids.
Atlanta United opens its preseason schedule against Nashville SC on Saturday, Feb. 10.
