Saturday night's performance from Atlanta United proved their grit and ability to prevail in a tough situation, made possible by a strong team effort led by team captain Michael Parkhurst. For the center back's impressive defensive stance in Minnesota, he was named to the MLS Team of the Week.
Though up a goal by just 3 minutes into the match, the Five Stripes suffered a blow in the first half when Leandro González Pirez was sent off for his second booking of the match. With his partner in central defense off the field and his team down a man for the majority of the 90 minutes, it was true test for Parkhurst to assemble and organize his squad in the face of adversity. The MLS veteran did just that, executing their bunker-down strategy to perfection and leaving Minneapolis with a victory and a clean sheet.
