Atlanta United 2 fell 4-0 to Memphis 901 FC Wednesday night at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
Atlanta looked the more dangerous team in the opening portion of the match, logging the first two shots on target of the game in the first 20 minutes through Tristan Trager and Jackson Conway.Â
Phillip Goodrum opened the scoring in the 36th minute. Vicente Reyes made an impressive save on a close-range shot and Goodrum got to the rebound first, heading it into the Atlanta net.Â
The visitors doubled their advantage in the 43rd minute. Derek Dodson sent in a cross from the right flank into the six-yard box and Goodrum dove at the opportunity, scoring his second of the night with a diving header.
Goodrum secured his hat trick in the 51st minute. A loose ball off a sliding challenge from an Atlanta player rolled into the feet of the Memphis striker, who ran to the edge of the box and tucked a finish behind Reyes.
Handwalla Bwana scored Memphis’ fourth and final goal in the 64th minute. A pass back to Reyes was played short, allowing the Somalian to make a free run at goal. Bwana curled his shot into the side netting for his first goal with Memphis.
ATL UTD 2 (5-21-4, 19 points) travels to Riccardo Silva Stadium in Westchester, Florida to take on The Miami FC on Sept. 17. (7 p.m., ESPN+).Â
