Just like that, Atlanta United's preseason is coming to a close. It feels like players were starting up training just yesterday, and yet just one more opponent stands between Atlanta United and its home opener against CF Montréal on Saturday, Feb. 22. That last opponent will be the first western conference team the 5-Stripes have played this preseason — FC Dallas travels to Marietta, Ga. to face Atlanta United at noon ET on Saturday, Feb. 15 at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground.
The final friendly will be a unique chance for Atlanta United to get more players out on the pitch, as the two teams will play three 45-minute periods according to head coach Ronny Deila. And while Xande Silva said Thursday that their goal is always to win, friendly or not, Deila recognized that there's a balance between treating the match like a dress rehearsal and rotating the squad.
"Everybody gets a lot of playing time," Deila said. "It's been fair. I think that's important that everybody has a chance, to take that chance to show themself."
