Atlanta United has two preseason matches in Mexico on Sunday, Feb. 13 against Chivas de Guadalajara and Tepatitlán FC. Kickoff for the Chivas match is at 10:30 a.m. ET (9:30 a.m. local time). The team will follow with a match against Tepatitlán FC which kicks off at 12:30 p.m. ET (11:30 a.m. local time). Both matches will be played at the Chivas facility located in Guadalajara, Chivas Verde Valle.
Chivas de Guadalajara, known more commonly by its nickname Chivas, is a professional soccer team in Zapopan, Jalisco. The club plays in Liga MX and was founded in 1906 in Guadalajara. Atlanta United head coach Gonzalo Pineda played for Chivas beginning in 2006. He made 145 appearances with Chivas, scoring six goals across all competitions, and won the Liga MX Apertura championship in his first season.
Tepatitlán FC, also called Tepa or Alteños, is a professional team based in Tepatitlán, Jalisco. The club plays in Liga de Expansión MX, a second-tier league founded in 2020. Celaya FC, the team Atlanta United faced in Mexico on Feb. 6, also plays in Liga de Expansión MX. Tepatitlán FC has won two recent titles, the Liga de Expansión MX title and the Champion of Champions tournament in 2021.
Sunday could mark the first time Atlanta United fans get the chance to see Thiago Almada in action. The club announced it signed the 20-year-old midfielder from Argentina on Feb. 9. Almada has been training with the team in Mexico this week at Club Atlas Colomos in Guadalajara.

Following the matches against Chivas and Tepatitlán, the team returns to Atlanta to continue its preseason. Atlanta United will play one more preseason scrimmage against Birmingham Legion FC on Feb. 20. Then, it'll be time for the 2022 MLS regular season, which begins for Atlanta United on Feb. 27 at home against Sporting Kansas City.
