Recent Form

The last match Atlanta United played was against Liga MX club Santos Laguna in the group stages of Leagues Cup. Since then, Atlanta has had almost three weeks to regroup and prepare for the last nine matches of the regular season. They also acquired their new midfielder, Alexey Miranchuk, during the secondary transfer window. The 5-Stripes currently sit at ninth in the Eastern Conference with 28 points.

Consistency and scoring have been a strength for the Galaxy this season. They currently sit at first in MLS Western Conference with 49 points. Much like Atlanta, the Galaxy also had time off between matches. Their last match was a 3-1 loss to the Seattle Sounders in the Round of 32 of Leagues Cup on August 8. During the transfer window, the Galaxy acquired German midfielder Marco Reus.

Series History and Last Meeting

Atlanta United and Los Angeles Galaxy do not have a long history of playing each other. The 5-Stripes have a record of 3-1-0 against the Galaxy. The last match between the two clubs was back in 2022 at Dignity Health Sports Park; L.A. got the 2-0 win over Atlanta.

The last time Atlanta beat the Galaxy was in August of 2019 when two own goals and a penalty kick from Josef MartĆnez earned the 5-Stripes the 3-0 victory. That day also marked a record attendance record for Atlanta United with 72,548 fans coming to Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Players to watch

Alexey Miranchuk (Atlanta United) ā€“ Atlantaā€™s new designated player will be available for selection on Saturday against the Galaxy. Miranchuk has all the makings of a player that can make a splash for Atlanta. Heā€™s had success in multiple countries, most recently in Serie A in Italy where he helped Atalanta win the UEFA Europa League. The highlight of his playing style is his ability to create scoring chances, so look for him to play a role in developing Atlantaā€™s attack.

Marco Rues (LA Galaxy): The Galaxy have no shortage of offensive-minded players like Dejan Joveljic and Gabriel Pec, who both lead the team in goals scored with 12 and 10 respectively. The wild card Saturday will be if the Galaxy choose to play their newest acquisition, Marco Rues. The three-time Bundesliga Player of the Season comes with a long resume that includes more than 300 goal contributions in all competitions in 12 seasons played.
