Kunga signed as a Homegrown Player with Atlanta United on June 17, 2017 with the deal becoming effective Jan. 1, 2018. A 20-year old forward from Atlanta, Ga., Kunga spent the 2017 season with the Atlanta United U-18s and scored 10 goals in 21 appearances. He also played on loan with Charleston Battery, Atlanta United’s then-USL affiliate. Kunga was called up to play with the United States National Team in the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup and made four appearances and scored one goal to help lead the team to the quarterfinals of the tournament where they lost to eventual runners-up Venezuela. Prior to signing with the first team, Kunga signed a Short-Term Agreement for Atlanta United’s U.S. Open Cup match against Miami FC June 28, 2017. The four-day contract allowed Kunga to make his club debut with Atlanta United’s first team.
2019 (Atlanta United): Did not make an appearance with the First Team during the MLS season. USL (Atlanta United 2 / Memphis 901 FC): Played two games and 23 minutes with ATL UTD 2 in the USL Championship before being loaned out to Memphis 901 FC. With Memphis, Kunga played in 22 matches including 10 starts. He finished the season with 1,021 minutes played. He scored one goal for Memphis901 FC and closed out the 2019 season with 11 total shots. The midfielder also added two assists, while registering a passing accuracy of 76.2 percent on the year.
2018 (Atlanta United): Did not make an appearance in MLS play. USL: Played in 30 games during Atlanta United 2’s inaugural season, making 16 starts. He scored three goals and added two assists. He scored his first professional goal on March 31 at Charlotte, which was later voted the USL Goal of the Week. Scored his first professional brace in a 2-1 win at Toronto FC II on August 31st to help ATL UTD 2 secure all three road points. The Homegrown player finished the year with 1,677 total minutes played at the Proving Ground.
2017 (Charleston Battery): Kunga made two appearances for the Battery. He made his first start July 22 at Tampa Bay Rowdies and played 64 minutes in a 2-0 loss. US Open Cup (Atlanta United): Kunga made his Atlanta United debut while on a short-term loan against Miami FC on June 28. He came on as a substitute for Mark Bloom, played 25 minutes and registered one shot attempt.
2016/17 (Atlanta United Academy): Kunga spent the 2017 season with the Atlanta United U-18s and scored 10 goals in 21 appearances.
INTERNATIONAL: Kunga played for the U.S. U-20 National Team at the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea. He made four appearances during the tournament and scored the sixth and final goal against New Zealand in a 6-0 victory which tied the USA’s record for largest margin of victory at the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
