On Saturday, Jan. 27, Atlanta United’s preseason starts in Alabama as the team travels to play Birmingham Legion FC. The 5:00 p.m. EST match is the first of five preseason matches Atlanta United will play before starting the regular season against the 2023 MLS Cup champions Columbus Crew on Saturday, Feb. 24.
Winning more matches on the road is a goal that both head coach Gonzalo Pineda and the players have set for the 2024 MLS season, so getting prep playing away from Mercedes-Benz Stadium is integrated into the preseason plan. After their match in Birmingham, Atlanta United plays at Turner Sports Complex at the University of Georgia in Athens on February 3. Then, it’s off to Florida where the 5-Stripes will play the remaining three matches on the preseason slate.

Birmingham Legion FC
Protective Stadium, where Saturday’s preseason game will be held, became Legion’s home at the beginning of their 2022 season. Last season, in the fight towards winning a USL Championship, the club ended up in seventh place in the eastern conference with a record of 14-16-4.
Against Atlanta United, Birmingham Legion will also be celebrating their new deal with Hummel, a Danish apparel company that is providing new home kits for the club and will be worn for the first time Saturday.
